Per the Documentation, in the Detail view, the list is grouped by group number, and "Any sorting will always sort by the group first.". However that's not what I'm experiencing. I'm trying to sort by modified date within the group, but instead the entire list is sorted by modified date. Am I doing something wrong? I recently upgraded to Duplicate Cleaner Pro v 5 (the latest). I did not have this problem with Pro v 4.

Version 5 isn't locked to sorting by group first unlike version 4.

You can sort on multiple columns shift-clicking on the additional columns to sort (e.g. Click on group, then shift-click on date)
